Farewell Celebrations

After nearly eight months of being awarded the Fulbright scholarship, the time has come for me to say goodbye as I depart for the U.S. Some of my closest friends helped me celebrate this special occasion yesterday with a farewell lunch at Granada (Spanish Cafe).

Great company, conversation and food! I’m truly blessed to work with such a kind and thoughtful team (including my dear friends at SBIT). In her presentation speech Sonia made jokes :) and shared stories of the Fulbright journey of which I may say, involved everybody.

There were many farewell hugs and good wishes. Finally thank you to all for organising a wonderful day of celebration and farewell. A fond memory.

Thinking of you all.

Happy 4th July Celebrations

4th of July celebrations themed as Californian Dreamin’ was held recently at the U.S Embassy in Canberra and I was extended the honour to attend. It was lovely to experience the American culture such as Corvettes, Mustangs, Baseball, Hot Dogs with Sauerkraut or Chilli, Mini Hamburgers, Curly Fries and the refreshing Budweiser. We all experienced a taste of Hollywood (Marilyn and Arnie) and music from the 60’s and 70’s including the Mamas and Papas, and the legendary Beach Boys. Another highlight was the sampling of Californian wines, cheeses and other produce.

It was also a pleasure to catch up with Dr Joe Hlubucek (Executive Director Australian-American Fulbright Commission) and Matthew, Beth, Hilary and Krista (2010 Fulbright Scholars).

The night concluded with a spectacular fireworks display. It was an awesome and memorable introduction to America.
